We get used to seeing the world from familiar positions.

The same route. The same rooms passed through in roughly the same way. The body keeps moving while our attention is somewhere else, and much of what surrounds us becomes background.

I walked into this room noticing the motorcycle first. A few steps in, I could no longer see the wall the way I had from the doorway.
